Temperatures at Kingaroy Airport dropped to -2.1 degrees Celsius on Sunday morning, officially the coldest morning of the year so far in the region, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

This follows an almost balmy 2.5 degrees minimum on Saturday morning and 2.9 degrees on Friday.

BOM reported that Toowoomba, Gympie, Dalby, Roma, Ipswich, Biloela, Oakey, Charleville, Hervey Bay, Applethorpe, Warwick and Maryborough also recorded their coldest mornings of the year on Sunday, as did Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

The lowest minimum recorded by BOM was at Wellcamp Airport: -3.6 degrees.

The Bureau has predicted a warmer start to Monday with overnight temperatures tipped to fall to between 3 and 9 degrees overnight in the Wide Bay Burnett forecast area.

On a brighter side, there was also a tiny amount of rainfall recorded in the region.

Heavy clouds and scuds on the southern horizon promised rain late on Saturday, but just 1.5mm was recorded at Kingaroy Airport.

BOM predicts a 20 per cent chance of rain on Wednesday.
