Police are investigating after a thief targeted an elderly woman in Kingaroy last week.

The 80-year-old woman, who lives in Doonkuna Street, received a phone call that told her the “chip” in her bank card needed to be replaced.

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Dave Tierney, said that a short time later a man – aged 25-30 – arrived at the woman’s house and took the card, saying he would return it the next day.

The thief subsequently tried to use the card in Brisbane the following day to buy jewellery but the transaction was declined.

Investigations are continuing.

Drugs

Searches by police in Kingaroy on June 11 have resulted in a number of charges:

  • A 24-year-old Kingaroy woman will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on July 27 charged with possessing drugs and drug utensils after police searched an address in River Road. They allegedly found drug utensils, a small quantity of amphetamine and cannabis.
  • A 40-year-old Kingaroy man will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on July 27 charged with drug possession after police searched a residence in Markwell Street. They allegedly located a small quantity of cannabis.
  • Three people will face drugs charges after police searched a William Street residence. Police allegedly located drug utensils, a small quantity of amphetamine and cannabis. A 53-year-old New Auckland woman will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court charged with drug possession; a 25-year-old Kingaroy woman and a 49-year-old Tarong man will appear charged with possessing drugs and drug utensils.
  • A 59-year-old Kingaroy woman will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on July 6 charged with possessing drugs and drug utensils after police searched an address in Candello Close. Police allegedly located a small quantity of cannabis, non-prescribed medication and drug utensils.
  • A 19-year-old Kingaroy woman will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on June 29 charged with possessing a restricted weapon and a dangerous drug after police searched an address in Glendon Street. Police allegedly located a throwing knife and non-prescribed medication.
  • A 47-year-old Kingaroy man will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on July 20 charged with possessing drugs and drug utensils after police searched a house in William Street.  Police allegedly located a small quantity of amphetamine and cannabis as well as drug utensils.

On June 12, police executed a search warrant at an address in Youngman Street where they allegedly located a small quantity of restricted drugs and cannabis as well as drug utensils.

A 24-year-old Kingaroy woman will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on July 13 charged with possessing a dangerous drug and drug utensils.

A 24-year-old Nanango man will appear charged with possessing a dangerous drug, restricted drugs and drug utensils as well as obstructing police and possessing tainted property. He will also face court for the alleged break and enter of a motel on Walter Road in September 2019.

Police are also making further investigations in relation to other property seized, including jewellery, tools, foreign coins and mobile phones.

Traffic

Three people have been charged with drug-driving:

  • June 13, 7:25pm: A 22-year-old Kingaroy man driving a Dodge stationwagon was stopped by police on Logan Road, Kingaroy. He will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on July 27.
  • June 13, 8:55pm: Police intercepted a 19-year-old Brooklands man driving a Holden sedan on Alford Street, Kingaroy. He will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on July 27.
  • June 14, 5:05pm: A 49-year-old Tarong man driving a Holden sedan was pulled over on River Road. He will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on August 3.

On Sunday (June 14), police intercepted a 39-year-old Kingaroy man driving a Nissan stationwagon on Haly Street, Kingaroy. The driver allegedly provided a positive sample to a roadside breath test (0.106 BAC). He will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on August 3.
