Retired former Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott, 76, has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
The citation reads: “For significant service to the people and Parliament of Australia, and to the community of South West Queensland”.
Mr Scott, a former woolgrower, retired from Federal Parliament in 2016 after serving the Maranoa electorate for more than 25 years.
He was born in Roma and attended school there and in Muckadilla.
While working on the land, he was awarded a Nuffield scholarship that took him to the United Kingdom and Europe to study agricultural policy.
During his valedictory speech to Parliament, Mr Scott described this as a life-changing experience.
Mr Scott was elected to Federal Parliament in 1990.
He served as Minister for Veterans Affairs from 1996 to 2001, and also Minister Assisting the Minister for Defence from 1998 to 2001.
Mr Scott was elected Deputy Speaker of the House in 2012.
