South Burnett Regional Council will receive $1 million from the Federal Government’s “Drought Communities Program Extension” for a string of local projects.

The extra funding was announced recently by Member for Maranoa David Littleproud.

“The program is designed to use local tradies and local suppliers to build infrastructure as a stimulus for communities impacted by drought,” Mr Littleproud said.

“Drought doesn’t just impact farmers – it affects the communities that support them and they need help, too.”

Funded projects in the South Burnett include:

  • Employment of a Drought Response Officer
  • Installation of shade structures over barbecue areas in Butter Factory Park and Pioneer Park, Nanango
  • Replace the top of both barbecues with stainless steel instead of tiles
  • Install three bike racks in Nanango’s CBD that complement its heritage theme
  • Install a shade sail and solar lighting in Butter Factory Park
  • Trickle irrigation for garden beds around Nanango
  • Revamp Pioneer Park’s skate park
  • Erect a shade shelter at the Blackbutt Skate Park
  • Install a picnic table at Barambah Creek on the South Burnett Rail Trail
  • Reseal Apex Park carpark
  • Replace the roof of Nanango Tennis Club
  • Upgrade Maidenwell Hall
  • Paint the children’s pool at Kingaroy Pool
  • Repairs and minor maintenance of Kingaroy Town Hall
  • External painting of Kingaroy SES building and amenities
  • Replace carpet in Kingaroy SES office and program room
  • External painting of Kingaroy Heritage Museum
  • Extra water tanks for Durong Hall
  • Install insulation and air-conditioning at Wondai SES shed
  • Install internal upgrades and anti-graffiti treatment at the amenities block in QEII Park, Murgon
  • Repairs at Proston Show Grounds
  • Cloyna Hall repairs
  • Install a 200m footpath from Kumbia State School to Francis Street
  • Install a footpath from the South Burnett Rail Trail to the Memerambi toilets and picnic table
  • Upgrade Main Street, Maidenwell
  • Upgrades at the Bunya Mountains
  • Seal Burton Lane, Murgon
  • Bitumen the Dingo Creek carpark in Wondai
  • Replace aged timber surrounds at Dingo Creek
  • Install kerbing and channeling at Hood Street, Proston
