Work to begin installing solar panels on 14 South Burnett State schools is scheduled to start later this year under Phase 2 of the State Government’s Advancing Clean Energy Schools (ACES) program.
The Phase 2 rollout is due to begin on July 1.
The local schools on the list are:
Blackbutt, Cherbourg, Coolabunia, Goomeri P-10, Kingaroy SHS, Kingaroy SS, Murgon SHS, Murgon SS, Nanango SHS, Nanango SS, Proston P-10, Taabinga, Wondai P-10 and Yarraman P-9.
Education Minister Grace Grace said the ACES program was helping to reduce energy costs in State schools.
She said a virtual solar farm was being installed atop Queensland state schools, which would eventually contribute enough solar generated electricity to power 25,000 homes.
Phase 1 is under way with work on the initial 210 State schools nearing completion.
“Already almost 32,000 solar panels, pumping out 11 megawatts of power, have been installed providing significant gains to those schools that have received installations to date – with tens of thousands more to come,” the Minister said.
