Glen Hartwig is the new mayor of Gympie Regional Council, defeating incumbent Mick Curran by almost 5000 votes.
The Electoral Commission of Queensland officially declared the results for Divisions 2, 6 and 8 and the Mayor on Monday afternoon and for Divisions 3, 4, 5 and 7 on Wednesday.
The only Division still to be declared is Division 1 where a recount has been ordered.
Sitting councillor Hilary Smerdon was easily re-elected in Division 6, which covers the Goomeri, Tansey, Kilkivan, Widgee, Woolooga and Pie Creek areas.
The first council meeting after the poll has been pencilled in for April 23, dependent on the ECQ declaring the results in the remaining Divisions.
UPDATE: Division 1 has now been declared. The election of Jess Milne in Division 1 means that the Mayor and four sitting councillors were not returned.
