South Burnett Rugby League has secured a naming rights sponsor for its centenary year competition.

SBRL president David Tierney said the South Burnett League would be known as the Ken Mills Isuzu Ute South Burnett Rugby League Competition in 2020.

This will include Under 12s, Under 14s, Under 16s and A Grade.

“The support of Ken Mills Isuzu Ute also extends to the South Burnett Under 18s side that plays in the Toowoomba Competition,” David said.

The Junior Competition will kick off on Saturday (March 21) with games being hosted in Kingaroy, Nanango and the Central Burnett.

“It will also see the reintroduction of the historic Blackbutt Timbertowners back into this 100 year League,” David said.

There will also be girls teams from Kingaroy competing in the Toowoomba competition.

The Conpak Under 14s girls and McDonalds Under 16s girls will launch their 2020 campaigns at home with games at T.J. O’Neill Oval.

The Senior Competition is due to begin on Friday, April 3, with a double header in Kingaroy.

Unfortunately, COVID-19 has forced the cancellation of the Centenary Dinner which was to be held the following night at Kingaroy Town Hall.

“We have postponed the 100-year celebration dinner on April 4 due to the uncertainty over the coronavirus,” David said.

“We want to ensure we can run an event that is befitting the achievement which we don’t think would happen in the current environment.

“The main factor was also ensuring the health of all attendees.   A date will announced later once we have more clarity.”

NB. At this stage, junior games will go ahead as planned this weekend.
