Recent storms have caused an estimated $1 million damage to the South Burnett’s road network, Council’s meeting heard on Wednesday.

Roads Portfolio chair Cr Gavin Jones said repair work was already under way but it would take some time before all roads could be fully restored.

He said most of the region’s road network had stood up “fairly well” to recent storms, however some roads had suffered damage and would need repairs.

“I understand people’s frustration when it’s their road that needs to be fixed,” Cr Jones said.

“It’s only human to want to get it fixed as fast as possible, and to get frustrated when that doesn’t seem to be happening.”

Cr Jones said that with a 3000km network to cover, it was simply impossible to work on all damaged sections at once.

So while he encouraged people to report road damage to Council so it could be logged for attention, he also urged patience.

Road crews would be attending to all the issues Council knew about as quickly as they could, he said.

But with such a big area to cover, restoring all the region’s roads to pre-storm condition was likely to take a little while.
