Students at St Mary’s Catholic College in Kingaroy were excited to return to school this year and discover several primary and secondary classrooms have been air-conditioned.
New principal Carmel O’Brien said a loan to install the air-conditioning was an investment in the College’s ongoing role as a major educator in the community.
The $250,000 first stage of the air-conditioning project was kept local as part of the College’s commitment to using local tradespeople wherever they could.
Gary Favier, from Favier Building Industries, was appointed principal contractor for the eight-week project over the Christmas break.
Gary managed the three local companies also involved in the project: Kingaroy Refrigeration which undertook the installation work in the primary rooms; Astill’s Electrical which did the installation in the secondary rooms; and Fiedler Brothers Plumbing which assisted with associated drainage works.
P&F president Damien Martoo was on hand for the official unveiling.
The P&F have committed to servicing the loan through their fundraising ventures.
The first of these will be a Colour Fun Run on Saturday, February 22.
It will be held in the school’s grounds in Kent Street, and is open to anyone who would like to have fun.
