South Burnett Regional Council is changing the way it will receive rates payments in future.
After a review, Council has decided it will no longer accept direct credit payments, ie. payments made directly into its bank account.
However, it will continue to accept BPay payments.
Council is in the process of closing their current bank account.
A Council spokesperson said the account would remain open until June 30 to allow people time to transition to a different option.
“This change will allow Council to better streamline processes, ensure that money received is allocated to the correct place and assist with prevention of potential fraud,” the spokesperson said.
The SBRC offers the following payment options:
- Australia Post
- BPay
- Centrepay
- Over the counter at any Council office
- Cheque: Mail to PO Box 336, Kingaroy, Qld, 4610
Payment made into Council’s bank account after June 30 will bounce back as the account will be closed.
So, where will the cheques be deposited if you have no bank account?
