A man has been charged with multiple traffic offences after an off-duty police officer was allegedly almost run over in Yarraman last Tuesday.
Police say a vehicle was reported driving dangerously on the Burnett Highway at Nanango.
They tried to intercept the car – which had false number plates – about 6:44pm however the driver managed to evade them.
The vehicle was later spotted at 6:55pm in Yarraman.
However, the driver saw the marked police car and drove into the service station on the corner of Barr Smith Street and the D’Aguilar Highway.
He then allegedly reversed at high speed, nearly hitting the off-duty officer.
Police allege the vehicle then turned right on to Barr Smith Street at speed, causing the rear wheels to lose traction, and travelled down the wrong side of the road before turning left on to Emmett Street and heading towards Blackbutt.
Police identified the driver and arrested a man at an address in Blackbutt the next day.
A 23-year-old man appeared in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on January 23 charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving an uninsured and unregistered vehicle, unlicensed driving and offences involving registration certificates.
He was remanded in custody to reappear on March 30.
