Cherbourg Council has set its goals for the next five years in its new Corporate Plan, passed at its January meeting.
The document, which is a requirement of all Queensland councils, spells out the council’s values, vision and goals.
Some of the items highlighted include:
- Identifying land within the town boundaries for future residential housing allotments
- Developing and expanding the community recycling program
- Providing a safe, reliable water supply and efficient sewerage reticulation and treatment system
- Identifying small business opportunities that may be taken up by community residents
- Promoting healthy lifestyles
- Completing the Dudley Collins Cultural Centre and negotiating with community groups to operate this facility
Mayor Arnold Murray said his biggest goals were to make Cherbourg “a better place for the younger generation coming through”, with more jobs and opportunities, better housing, infrastructure and environmental services.
Newly appointed CEO Chatur Zala said having a well though out and comprehensive Corporate Plan would help Council when applying for capital works funding.
Zala, who had been acting CEO since last August following the retirement of long-serving CEO Warren Collins, was appointed CEO in December.
Zala’s role as Corporate Services Manager has been filled with the appointment of former Economic and Community Development Officer Sam Murray to the position this week.
