Six people will appear in local courts to face charges of unlicensed driving after recent licence checks by police on South Burnett roads.

Those charged are:

  • A 23-year-old Riverview man stopped in Oak Avenue, Cherbourg.
  • A 26-year-old Gootchie man stopped in Haly Street, Wondai.
  • A 26-year-old Annerley woman stopped on Stan Mickelo Drive, Cherbourg.
  • A 26-year-old Cherbourg man stopped on Lamb Street, Murgon.
  • A 22-year-old Murgon man stopped on Cherbourg Road, Cherbourg.
  • A 46-year-old Cattle Creek woman stopped on Chinchilla-Wondai Road at Cushnie. She has also been charged with speeding.

Property

A 12-year-old boy from Taranganba (near Yeppoon), a 12-year-old Cherbourg boy and a 15-year-old Kippa Ring boy will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act after they allegedly used bolt cutters to cut a chain securing a gate to a business in Fisher Street, Cherbourg, about 5:10pm on October 20.

Investigations are continuing into a number of other incidents:

  • October 18 – About 10:00pm, a window of a house in Barambah Avenue was smashed.
  • Between 8:00am on October 18 and 8:00am on October 25, unknown offenders gained entry to a house in Smyth Street, Murgon, by opening a rear sliding window.
  • Between 5:00pm on October 18 and 4:00pm on October 19, a rear window of a residence in Douglas Street, Murgon, was smashed to gain entry. Offenders then left via a door but no property was taken.
  • Between 10:00am on October 11 and 1:30pm on October 18, thieves removed a screen to break into a home on Wright Way at Murgon. They stole money and other personal belongings.
  • Between 4:35pm and 4:45pm on October 23, unknown offenders approached a vehicle driving along Macalister Street, Murgon, and damaged the driver’s side door.

Shop Stealing

Murgon police have reported two incidents of shop stealing from businesses in Lamb Street: about 2:15pm on October 21 and about 11:50am on October 25.

Investigations into both incidents are continuing.

Drugs

A 49-year-old Gympie man will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on November 19 charged with possessing drug utensils,  unlicensed driving  and drink driving after police stopped a vehicle in Douglas Street, Murgon, about 8:40pm on October 20 for an RBT.

A 17-year-old Cherbourg boy will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act after police stopped a vehicle on Cherbourg Road, Cherbourg, about 5:45pm on October 23. Police allegedly located drugs and drug items used in the vehicle.

Police officers from Murgon, Cherbourg and Wondai responded to a variety of incidents between October 18-25 including drug, traffic and property offences. They also attended 11 calls related to domestic violence incidents, issued four infringement notices for life-endangering traffic offences and performed 199 roadside breath tests.
