Smouldering coal sparked a fire alert at Tarong Power Station on Wednesday morning.
Fire crews were called to the incident just before 9:00am.
The smouldering coal was in the Unit 3 mill bunker.
It is believed to have ignited through spontaneous self-combustion.
Stanwell employees followed normal emergency procedures to isolate and manage the incident which was quickly brought under control.
