South Burnett Regional Council will distribute almost $72,000 to 46 community groups in the first round of its 2019-20 Community Grants Program.
The successful applicants were announced at last week’s Council meeting.
The Council will provide $1000 to five hall committees to help cover their annual insurance costs:
- Booie Hall and Recreation Association
- Farmers Hall, Inverlaw
- Mondure Hall Committee
- Queensland Dairy and Heritage Museum
- Tablelands Hall Association
Council will also provide one-off sponsorship for the following projects:
- Blackbutt RSL – $3000 to erect flagpoles in Les Muller Park
- Hivesville Country Markets – $700 to beautify Hivesville’s sportsground with tree plantings
- Kingaroy Men’s Shed – $2101.15 for a dust extraction fan for the wood section
- Kumbia Kindergarten – $1000 for an educational gardening project for children
- Kumbia & District Golf Club – $2558.80 for greens equipment to assist in maintenance
- Murgon Neighbourhood Watch – $750 for relocatable cameras for community use
- Proston Golf Club – $2000 for furniture and floor coverings
- South Burnett Working Equitation Group – $1000 for competition and training obstacles
- Taabinga Rotary Club – $1798 to purchase barbecues for use at community events
- Wondai Cricket Club – $549 to purchase a tablet for scoring
- Wondai & District Town Band – $2000 to help the band attend local events and fundraisers
- Wondai QCWA – $2255 to install a new switchboard for the QCWA Rooms in an Ergon-approved location
- Wondai Town & Rural Neighbourhood Watch – $750 for relocatable cameras for community use
- Wooroolin Lions Club – $1500 to record and illuminate Wooroolin’s history in Dalton Park
Council will support the following community events:
- Kingaroy Community Christmas Carols – $1924
- Kumbia Christmas Carnival – $1000
- Kumbia Race Club Melbourne Cup Meet – $2000
- Kumbia Tennis Association Open Day – $830
- Murgon Community Christmas Festival – $1500
- Murgon Easter Speggtacular 2020 – $500
- Murgon Police 2020 Charity Ball – $3000
- Murgon Show 2020 – $1400
- Nanango Campdraft 2020 – $1500
- Nanango Community Christmas Carnival – $2000
- Nanango RSL 100 Years Of Service event – $3000
- Nanango Waterhole Rocks – $1000
- Proston Lions Community Christmas Carnival – $1000
- Proston Pony Club 2019 Youth Camp – $1750
- South Burnett Multicultural Festival – $1500
- South Burnett 2020 Orchid Show – $500
- The Barbershop Boys’ performances at local nursing homes – $1000
Four sports clubs will benefit from Healthy Communities sponsorships:
- Kingaroy Junior Cricket Association – $3000 to purchase ball machines
- Murgon Cricket Club – $3000 to install a synthetic pitch
- South Burnett Junior Rugby League – $3000 for Beyond The Nest Development Camp in 2020
- South Burnett Little Athletics – $2544.90 to upgrade the discus facility to IAAF standards
Council will sponsor three school awards nights:
- Nanango State High School – $300
- Wondai State School – $300
- Yarraman P-9 State School – $200
Through the Regional Arts Development Fund, Council will also support three projects:
- Creative Country Association – $1250 for a canvas making workshop
- Noosa Film Academy – $3000 for film-making workshops for Kingaroy and Murgon State High students
- South Burnett Community Orchestra – $3000 for a 2-day workshop that will result in a free community concert performing Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony
Communities Portfolio chair Cr Danita Potter said Council had received 57 applications requesting a total of $93,555 in the round.
The second and final round of 2019-20 community grants will open on February 1, 2020 and close on February 28.
