Water restrictions have been tightened in all Toowoomba Regional Council communities, including Yarraman.

Councillors voted to approve the stricter water restrictions at Tuesday’s TRC meeting.

They will come into effect on December 2.

Under the new residential water restrictions, the daily water use targets for residents will be:

  • Low – unchanged at 200 litres per person per day (L/p/d) – although all “Low” communities will be shifted to “Medium” on December 2
  • Medium – cut from 200 L/p/d to 175 L/p/d
  • High – cut from 170 L/p/d to 150 L/p/d
  • Extreme – cut from 140 L/p/d to 125 L/p/d

Yarraman is currently on “High” level, ie. it will be moving to 150 litres per person per day.

“I think everyone realises the impact the current drought is having on our Region and it’s important we respond to these trying conditions by limiting our water use,” Cr Nancy Sommerfield said.

“While our combined dam levels are still around 34 per cent, the future rain outlook isn’t promising, and as such, we felt it was imperative we made these changes to ensure water security for the region.”
