Police from the Murgon Child Protection Investigation Unit have arrested a 13-year-old girl following the investigation of an alleged armed robbery at a Murgon supermarket car park last Friday night.

It will be alleged that about 8:00pm on Friday, the girl approached local residents sitting in a vehicle in the supermarket car park, produced a knife and demanded they surrender their vehicle.

Those in the vehicle got out and the girl got in, however, failed to start the car.

The girl then allegedly fled the area on foot.

Police were able to identify and locate the girl within half an hour of the reported incident.

The 13-year-old girl was charged with attempted armed robbery.

The alleged incident was publicised on Murgon Neighbourhood Watch’s social media page on Saturday with a warning to parents:

Word of advice to all parents of, or young ones working evening/night shifts please ensure you and your child are safety conscious at all times when leaving work or just generally out and about: two young ladies had a knife pulled on them last night in Murgon after finishing work, with threats of being stabbed and wanting the vehicle they were getting into. The offender fled and neither girl was hurt though both were shaken and upset. Police arrived quickly and the offender was later picked up. This could have ended so differently for all parties. Please be vigilant, ensure someone is always there for pick up or parking areas are well lit. This is no joke or humble Murgon gossip please take your safety seriously because the scum (and that’s putting it nicely) in our area are getting worse. The Police are doing the best they can but our justice system is a joke!
