A male motorcyclist died and a female driver was critically injured in a head-on crash on the Brisbane Valley Highway at Ironbark on Tuesday night.

Emergency services were called to the scene, north of the Blacksoil turn-off, at 10:53pm.

A police spokesperson said preliminary inquiries indicated a motorbike was travelling west on the Brisbane Valley Highway when it and a sedan travelling in the opposite direction collided.

QAS critical care paramedics and the High Acuity Response Unit attended.

The driver and sole occupant of the car, a woman aged in her 60s, was treated for burns and serious abdominal injuries at the scene and was transported in a critical condition to the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital.

The motorcycle rider, a Mount Crosby man in his 20s, died at the scene.

Police Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating.
