A car thief ran away on foot from police after they deployed road spikes in Murgon on Saturday night in a bid to stop a stolen vehicle.

A Holden Cruze was stolen from a house in Fitzroy Street, Kingaroy, about 8:25pm.

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Dave Tierney, said the thief entered the house through an unlocked rear door and took the keys from where they were hanging.

The resident heard the vehicle start and saw a man sitting in the driver’s seat.

He described him as being about 20-years-old and wearing a grey hoodie.

The vehicle was later seen in Wondai about 8:55pm but failed to stop when police tried to intercept it.

Police later attempted to deploy stingers when the vehicle was seen in Murgon but the man hit the gutter before running away on foot.

Investigations are continuing.
