The crowds of people in Kingaroy last weekend weren’t all here just for BaconFest, there was also a huge junior soccer carnival under way which attracted teams from across southern Queensland.
The Mini-Roos Carnival on Sunday, hosted by the Kingaroy Junior Football Club, featured games for Under 6/7s, Under 8/9s, Under 1o/11s, Under 12/13s and Cadets.
Teams came from across the South Burnett as well as Chinchilla, Dalby, Gatton, Highfields and Buderim.
The younger grades were playing for fun, but the Under 12s/13s and Cadets were competing for cash team prizes: $200 for first place and $100 for runners-up.
South Burnett teams made it to the finals in both grades but it was the Murgon-based Joeys which stole the show with a dramatic win against Highfields in the closely fought Cadets Grand Final.
At full-time, Joeys and Highfields were locked at three all.
But the local team pulled away in extra time, taking the game 5-3.
Joeys’ goals were kicked by Austin Kelly – who scored a hat-trick – Liam Robe and Reagon Goschnick.
Sponsors for the junior soccer carnival were Blacks Electrical, CTC Mechanical, G Crumpton & Sons and Swickers Kingaroy.
