Police are seeking urgent public assistance to help locate an elderly man who is missing from Samford.

Maxwell Morrison, 81, was last seen leaving a Morrison Road residence at Cedar Creek about 1:30pm on Monday to drive to Samford Village but did not return home.

He is in the initial stages of dementia and is an insulin dependent diabetic and may have become confused or disoriented.

Police said he was last seen driving on Mount Glorious Road about 2:00pm on Monday.

It is unknown where, in which direction or how far Mr Morrison may have travelled since that time.

Police and family hold serious concerns for his safety and well-being.

Mr Morrison was driving a 2004 white Nissan Navara single cab utility with Queensland registration 195-HPL.

The vehicle has a distinctive, long steel tray with timber deckand mesh fold-down vehicle ramps.

A land and aerial search is under way involving helicopters, 4WDs, trail bikes and other vehicles.

The area is rural with many acreage properties and large areas of bush and parkland.

Police are urging all property owners to check their properties, local areas, parks etc.

Anyone who sights Mr Maxwell or his vehicle is urged to immediately call police on Triple Zero (000).

Mr Maxwell is about 170cm tall with a heavy-set build and white hair.

He was last seen wearing an orange T-shirt with a collar, dark grey pants, brown socks and sandals.

UPDATE 3:45pm: There are unconfirmed reports that Mr Morrison’s ute has been located on a dirt road near Samford.

UPDATE 4:00pm: The ute has been located but the search for the missing man is continuing.

UPDATE August 9: Searchers located Mr Morrison’s body on Friday afternoon at Mount Glorious. His death is not being treated as suspicious. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
