Kingaroy State High School principal Ashley Roediger is seeking information about past students of either the high school or primary school who died in conflict.

A “Lest We Forget” wall was built recently at the school in conjunction with the Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL Sub-Branch.

“Currently we have received the details of one former student who died in conflict, Edgar Raymond Perrett,” Mr Roediger said.

“Mr Perrett was born in Kingaroy on January 27, 1911. He attended Kingaroy State School in 1925 and then studied at Gatton Ag College.

“After completing his studies he joined the Army.

“Unfortunately, Mr Perrett drowned when the hospital ship, Centaur, was sunk off Moreton Island on May 14, 1943.

“Later this year I would like to unveil the ‘Lest We Forget’ wall and aim to include any other former Kingaroy SHS/SS students who died in conflict.

“The RSL will kindly donate a bronze plaque to recognise these former students.

“I imagine that there would be other past students who fought in places like Malaya, Vietnam, the Middle East etc.

“If you are able to assist with names and details of other past students who died in conflict, please contact the school on (07) 4160-0666.”
