A 16-year-old girl has died after the car she was driving ran off the road, hit a tree and overturned on a remote bush road south-west of Durong on Thursday morning.
The teenager and her mother were travelling along an unsealed section of Jandowae-Durah Road in Nudley Forest when the driver apparently lost control and hit a tree about 10:30am.
The incident occurred at Fairyland, near Burra Burri, about 15km from the intersection of Nudley Forest Road and Chinchilla-Wondai Road.
A passing truck driver came across the crash site about 12:30pm and alerted emergency services.
The girl was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her 46-year-old mother was treated by QAS paramedics before being transported to Jandowae Hospital in a serious but stable condition with head, chest and abdominal injuries.
The Toowoomba-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter, which was waiting at the hospital, then airlifted her to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
