They’re in the barriers, the light’s flashing and the starter has the button … who will be our next MPs?

May 17, 2019

Three Federal electorates cross the South Burnett: Wide Bay, Flynn and Maranoa.

At present, all three are held by the LNP and polls suggest this will still be the case when counting in Saturday’s election is over.

The competition in Flynn – currently held by Ken O’Dowd – is tipped to be the closest.

Mr O’Dowd scraped in at the last election, but a poll published in the metropolitan media this week suggested minor party preferences from Clive Palmer’s United Australia Party and Pauline Hanson’s One Nation will get Mr O’Dowd over the line again this time.

Odd fact:  The two men most likely to win Flynn, Zac Beers (ALP) and Mr O’Dowd (LNP) are both former employees of Queensland Alumina at Gladstone.

Agriculture Minister David Littleproud looks to be the odds-on favourite in Maranoa even though One Nation were strong at the last outing.

In Wide Bay, Llew O’Brien should earn his second term although Labor has fielded a strong candidate in former soldier Jason Scanes.
