A permanent monument to police officers who have lost their lives – particularly those killed while on duty – has been unveiled in Chinchilla.

The centrepiece consists of a large piece of petrified wood upon which three plaques have been mounted.

These plaques play homage to three police officers with Chinchilla connections.

The monument was constructed with assistance from the Queensland Police Union and forms part of a garden which is looked after by Chinchilla police.

Police plan to hold a candlelight vigil at the monument later this year.
