More than 20 volunteers turned up on Sunday for the Blackbutt-Benarkin Lions Club’s “Clean Up Australia Day” event.
Organiser Melanie Doheny said all it took was a little effort engaging with members of the community for a cleaner Blackbutt and Benarkin for residents, tourists and rail trail users.
“Not only did the volunteers help clean up the township of Blackbutt but the man at the rubbish tip said it was one of the busiest Sundays he has had!” she said.
Melanie said the most common items collected were cigarette butts.
Sponsors for the day included MT Mechanical and Dustless Blasting, Blackbutt Fuel And Tyre, Blackbutt Benarkin Lions Club, Linda Little – Labor Candidate for Maranoa, Horse Trax Oz and Cr Gavin Jones.
