Firefighters from several local rural brigades gathered in the training room at the Rural Fire Service Burnett HQ in Kingaroy on Saturday to brush up on their first aid skills.

The day was organised by Michelle Hansen, the Volunteer Community Educator from Malar-Booie rural fire brigade.

“We identified that our people wanted to feel safe and learn first aid skills, and other brigades have similar needs,” Michelle said.

The Senior First Aid course was presented by Grant Geddes, from First Aid Instruction and Services (FAIS) at Murgon.

It was designed to provide the crews with the skills, knowledge and confidence required to provide a first aid response.

Firefighters from Stuart River, Malar-Booie, Booie Rise and Kunioon-Hodgleigh rural brigades attended the course.

Grant Geddes, from FAIS, was leading the first aid workshop for rural firefighters
