A Murgon woman has been charged with lighting an an unauthorised fire after police were called to several grass fires about 7:30am on December 10.

The fires were on Ferris Road at Murgon.

The woman will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on January 8.

Police have been investigating a number of thefts in the Murgon area:

  • On December 8,  a woman filled up a vehicle at a service station about 6:45pm without paying. She bought items in the store but stated she had no fuel.
  • About 8:00pm on the same day, two people stole alcohol from a bottleshop in Lamb Street.
  • On December 12, thieves entered a business in Lamb Street between 10:00am and 5:00pm and stole a large plastic bag of coins from an office.
  • A 23-year-old Cherbourg man has been charged after an alleged shoplifting incident at another Lamb Street store on December 13. He will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on January 22.
  • Also on December 13, unknown offender(s) entered a house on Lamb Street at some time between 6:00pm and 10:00pm. The thieves gained entry by breaking a window on the rear door and removed multiple personal items.

Investigations are continuing. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800-333-000.

Two vehicles have also had windows smashed with rocks:

  • On December 7, unknown offenders approached a parked vehicle on Wallace Street, Murgon, at some time between 3:00pm and 6:00pm and used rocks to smash the rear window.
  • On December 13, between 8:00am and 12:15pm, the rear window of a parked vehicle in Barambah Avenue was also smashed.

Investigations are continuing. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800-333-000.

Visitors to the region have also been keeping local police busy:

  • A 20-year-old Victoria Point woman will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on January 8 charged with unlicensed driving after police stopped a Holden Clubsport on Lamb Street, Murgon.
  • A 35-year-old Tara man will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on January 21 on drugs charges after police stopped a Holden Commodore on the Bunya Highway. A search of the vehicle allegedly located drugs and drug items.
  • A 32-year-old Rosewood man will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on January 15 charged with driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle and possessing drug utensils after police intercepted a Mazda Atenza on Lamb Street. A 21-year-old Leichhardt man will appear in court on the same day charged with possessing dangerous drugs.

A number of people will face drugs charges after police executed a series of search warrants in Cherbourg on December 11:

  • A 48-year-old man will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on January 15 charged with possessing dangerous drugs and drug utensils after a search of a house in Marshall Street.
  • A 43-year-old woman will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on January 22 charged with possessing dangerous drugs and drug utensils after a search of a house in Bulgi Street.
  • A 36-year-old man will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on January 22 charged with possessing dangerous drugs, failing to dispose of a syringe and possessing drug utensils after a search of a house in Cobbo Street.

Police responded to a variety of incidents between December 7-14 in the Murgon, Cherbourg and Wondai police divisions. Police also attended seven calls related to domestic violence incidents, issued nine infringements notices for life-endangering traffic offences and performed 144 roadside breath tests.
