The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is gathering further information about the forced landing of cropduster near the Bunya Highway on Friday morning.

The plane came down about 400m from the highway, about five kilometres north of Dalby, just after 5:00am.

The pilot, a 78-year-old man, managed to extricate himself from the wreckage.

A police spokesperson said he suffered only minor injuries in the incident.

The plane, a single-engine Ayres S2R, was extensively damaged in the crash.

It is believed the aircraft, which is registered to AGAV Pty Ltd at Dalby, had just taken off from Dalby Airport in preparation to spread fertilizer on a nearby property.

An ATSB spokesman said a decision would be made on Friday afternoon whether a formal investigation would be held into the incident.
