Human Services Minister Michael Keenan has urged Indigenous students who are planning to study full-time or start an apprenticeship in 2019 to lodge their claim for Abstudy now.
Mr Keenan encouraged prospective students to apply early.
To get Abstudy, recipients must be:
- Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Australian descent
- Identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Australian
- Accepted as such by the community in which they live or have lived
- An Australian citizen and normally live in Australia
- Covered under 1 of the 7 Abstudy Awards, and
- Be studying an approved course or doing an Australian Apprenticeship
Indigenous apprentices can claim the Abstudy allowance online via their myGov account.
Indigenous students can claim by calling 1800-132-317.
