Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien is encouraging students to apply for scholarships from the Federal Government’s $24 million Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarships program.
The program offers grants of up to $18,000 to help with the costs of studying science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) courses at either a university or a vocational education and training institution.
“One of these scholarships could help a promising student realise their potential and get a STEM education that will open a world of future possibilities,” Mr O’Brien said.
“STEM skills will play a critical role in an emerging workforce and we want to make sure our students are equipped and able to participate in these jobs of the future.
“More than 1200 rural, regional and remote students will receive support through the program.”
The scholarships also support students by allowing flexible study arrangements as well as additional funding so students can apply for internships and be job-ready.
Mr O’Brien said new guidelines would also make it easier for drought-affected students to apply, including families receiving the Farm Household Allowance.
“I encourage every student in our community who wants to study STEM to apply to the program,” he said.
Applications close on Friday, December 14.
