South Burnett will be fielding two teams – SB Blue and SB White – in the big U12s Mustangs Challenge being hosted by the Murgon Junior Rugby League Club this weekend.
Thirteen teams of young rugby league players from across a wide arc of Queensland will be taking part in the event at Murgon Showgrounds.
The carnival has been running for 25 years and is usually held in the Western Mustangs division.
Chinchilla were due to host it this year, but they are hosting the State Schoolgirls Rugby league championships this weekend.
“With no other club in that Division able to host, Murgon made the offer and were successful,” Sheree Prendergast, from the Murgon Mustangs, said.
“It is for Under 12 Boys and Girls and is their first opportunity to play under International Rules, ie. without the bibs and including scrums.”
As well as the two South Burnett Eagles teams, there’ll be teams coming from Gympie, Toowoomba (2), Western Downs, Roma, Southern Outback (made up of Charleville, Cunnamulla, Longreach and Augathella), Beerwah, Hervey Bay, Noosa, Warwick and Stanley River.
The 13 teams will be split into two pools and will be playing on two fields at the showgrounds.
Pool 1 consists of South Burnett Blue, Southern Outback, Noosa, Roma, Gympie, Toowoomba Clydesdales 2 and Western Downs.
Pool 2 is South Burnett White, Toowoomba Clydesdales 1, hervey Bay, Beerwah, Warwick and Stanley River.
The carnival will kick off on Saturday morning at 8:00 am and conclude on Sunday afternoon with the Grand Final at 2:40pm, followed by presentations.

The draw won’t be announced to much later in the year, but the South Burnett Rugby League is confident the region will host a game from the 2019 Intrust Super Cup.
The last time an Intrust Super Cup round came to the South Burnett was in 2015 when the Ipswich Jets played Souths Logan Magpies at Cherbourg.
Before that, Wynnum-Manly played Seagulls in Kingaroy in 2014.
