It’s that time of the year again when usually sane people don’t only smash avocados, they toss them, roll them, juggle them … and yes, even eat them.
The annual Blackbutt Avocado Festival is on again this weekend.
Saturday – the main day – kicks off at 8:00am with the Blackbutt Champion Woodchopping Event.
While some festival activities will be at the showgrounds (see below), most of the Festival fun will be taking place around the relocated Blackbutt Memorial Hall (“Avo Central”) and the adjacent recreation precinct.

Program of Events
- 8:00am: Blackbutt Champion Woodchopping Event – Blackbutt axemen have taken their skills to the world, but this time the action will be at the Blackbutt Showgrounds.
- 8:00am-4:00pm – At the Memorial Hall – Avocado displays, Guess The Weight competition, Avo merchandise, raffles, Avo craft, Match the Avocado Variety competition (and avocados for sale!)
- 9:00am-4:00pm – Avocado Games: Avo Roll, Avo Toss and Avo Golf
- 9:00am-4:00pm – Get your Avo On Photo Shoot
- 9:00am – Avocado Juggling heat followed by Avocado Strongman and Strongwoman
- 10:00am – Ford On Food (Jason Ford and Noeleen Bird)
- 10:30am – Guacamole judging (Jason Ford)
- 10:30am – Best Avocado Costume Competition (Cr Kathy Duff)
- 10:40am – Official Opening (Deb Frecklington)
- 10:50am – Avocado Juggling heat followed by Avocado Strongman and Strongwoman
- 11:00am – Street Parade starts at Blackbutt IGA (heads towards the Memorial Hall)
- Noon – Avocado Juggling heat followed by Avocado Strongman and Strongwoman
- 12:30pm – Ford on Food (Jason Ford and Jeff Connor)
- 1:30pm – Avocado Juggling heat followed by Avocado Strongman and Strongwoman
- 2:00pm – Ford on Food (Jason Ford and Cr Gavin Jones)
- 2:30pm – Finals: Avocado Juggling
- 2:45pm – Finals: Avocado Strongman and Strongwoman
- 3:30pm – Winners of the Guess the Weight and Match the Avocado Variety announced; raffles drawn
- 4:00pm – Great Avo Roll Finals ($1000 main prize)

At Blackbutt Showgrounds:
Live and local entertainment with the Sempf Family from noon to 4:00pm followed by Mr Q from 5:00pm to 9:00pm.
The Woodcutters Bar will be open from noon-9:00pm.
Barbecue food will be available at the Blackbutt IGA Country Canteen from noon to 6:00pm.
