The Kingaroy Local Ambulance Committee (LAC) – volunteers who support local ambulance paramedics – were presented with a cheque for $500 from Kingaroy Lions Club at their AGM on Tuesday evening.

The cheque was presented to LAC president John Box by Lions past president Norm Jackson.

The donation will be put towards the LAC sponsoring an upcoming training seminar for South Burnett trainee paramedics.

This will be held at the Kingaroy Ambulance Station on September 3.

Mr Box presented his President’s Report at the AGM. Highlights included:

  • The LAC held a meet’n’greet barbecue at the Kingaroy Station in February to welcome new paramedics and trainees and meet new Assistant Commissioner Darling Downs Steve Zsomboc
  • A 10-year service medal was presented to LAC member Liz Bruce
  • John Box and committee member Danita Potter represented the Kingaroy LAC at the State LAC bi-annual Conference at Hervey Bay. During the conference, John was presented with his 10-year LAC Service medal by Minister Cameron Dick and Commissioner Russell Bowles.
  • Kingaroy LAC members now have their own Kingaroy LAC shirt.
  • John regularly attends Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce and Industry meetings to provide updates on QAS/LAC activities
  • Members held raffles at the Kingaroy RSL Club on two occasions which raised $600 toward providing facilities and supporting activities for the station’s paramedics
  • The three newest committee members – Abby Andersson, Danita Potter and John Shaw – have quickly become integral members of the committee and their input and fresh ideas have been greatly appreciated. The LAC is always on the lookout for community members to join the committee.
  • The community partnership part of the LAC’s charter was exercised twice during the year with referrals from the Electorate Office of Deb Frecklington to assist community members. Because of one of these referrals, John and secretary Chris took the opportunity to take a tour of the QAS Call Centre at Maroochydore to gain a greater understanding of the processes of how triple zero calls are received and passed on to crews.
