The Maryknoll Centre at Saint Mary’s Catholic College was packed to overflowing on Friday night for the school’s annual celebration of music and dancing, Rock On Stage.
Each class at the school – from Prep to Year 12 – presented a lively musical item on stage while a team of independent judges allocated points.
There was also a keenly contested competition between the P&F Association and teachers which was won this year by the teachers with their performances from “The Lion King”.
The students’ repertoire ranged from ABBA (Prep) and Toyshop (Year 1) to Gender (Year 11) and Exercise (Year 12).
In between were Super Heroes, Minions, Rock’n’Roll and even a hip-hop routine by Year 3/4B.
Every class produces a dance or performance piece to rock or pop music which they prepare during their own time and in free periods.
2018 winners were:
- Prep to Year 2 – Year 2 with Wartimes, “a great story told with very appropriate music, meaning and respect”
- Year 3 to Year 6 – Year 6 with The Greatest Showman, “very tight choreography, clearly rehearsed, costumes look like they were taken out of the movie”
- Year 7 to Year 9 – Year 7 with House Rules, “excellent costumes and great dancing, full of energy”
- Year 10 to Year 12 – Year 12 with Exercise, “very motivating, great farewell to the seniors of the school”
The evening began with a sausage sizzle in the courtyard for parents.
