Four juveniles have been charged following a dramatic chase through Wondai and Murgon on Sunday afternoon.
Witnesses at the Wondai Sportsground and near the BP Service Station in Murgon watched as a stolen vehicle tore along the Bunya Highway, followed closely by police cars with their sirens blaring.
Social media lit up as the incident unfolded.
“I was at the Lions Park (in Murgon) when this car absolutely flew past, followed by 4 cop cars. An absolute chase that was so dangerousÂ đŸ˜³Â cars on the road already were so close to being hit. It’s ridiculous,” one woman wrote.
Another: “They were fudgen flying along. I past them as he or she were sooting into Murgon.”
A Murgon resident: “The procession almost hit our family just out of Kingaroy, as racing car went a little sideways at great speed before gaining control and acceralting (sic) even faster.”
Another: “Yes this car flew by as I was on my way home from work.”
The Nissan Qashqai at the centre of the incident was allegedly stolen from Forest Lake on Saturday night or Sunday morning.
Police spotted the vehicle about 2:00pm travelling along the D’Aguilar Highway near Yarraman heading towards Kingaroy.
A police media spokesman said officers tried to intercept the vehicle on the Bunya Highway as it travelled through Tingoora, Wondai and Murgon however the driver failed to stop.
About 2:30pm, police deployed stingers on the Cherbourg Road, stopping the vehicle near Stan Mickelo Drive.
Police said four boys who ran from the vehicle were taken into custody a short time later.
A 17-year-old Cherbourg youth has been charged with one count each of burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing, receiving tainted property, possess utensil and obstructing police.
A 15-year-old Inala youth has been charged with one count each of burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing, receiving tainted property, unlicenced driving, obstruct police and two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
A 13-year-old Inala boy has been charged with one count each of burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing, receiving tainted property and obstruct police.
A 13-year-old Inala boy has been charged with one count each of burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, enter and commit indictable offence, stealing, obstruct police and threatening violence.
A police officer received a minor injury to his forehead during the search for the teenagers.
UPDATE: The four were remanded in custody when they appeared in Murgon Children’s Court on Monday.
