500 cattle were yarded in Murgon on Tuesday, and the market improved for most descriptions except for weaner heifers, which were firm on the last market.
Cattle were drawn from Mundubbera, Gayndah, Biggenden, Mt Perry, Durong, Nanango, Kingaroy, Brigooda, Wooroonden and Murgon.
Sale results:
- Heavy Bulls topped at $2.54/kg for $2160
- Bullocks sold to a top of $2.72/kg, returning $1690
- 445kg Heifers sold to $1090 at $2.45/kg
- Heavy cows over 500kg topped at $2.29/kg and $1500, averaging $2.15/kg
- Cows 400–500kg averaged $2.00, selling to $2.29/kg
- Lighter Cows under 400kg sold to $1.87/kg
- 470kg Santa steers from the Schmidhauser family at Wooroonden sold to $1220 and $2.60/kg
- 410kg Santa steers from T. Birmingham of Murgon sold to $2.66/kg for $1090
- 367kg Braford steers from A. Bambling & Co. of Gayndah sold for $975 at $2.65/kg
- A line of 70 Droughtmaster and Charbray steers from Myora Pastoral Co. of Johnstown sold for an average of $890 and $2.68/kg, with an average weight of 331 kg
- 305kg Charolais steers from R & F Nichol of Mt Perry sold to $780 and $2.55/kg
- Charbray weaner steers from S & T Holding of Cloyna sold for $800 at $2.69/kg
- Light Brahman weaner steers from B. Hockey of Goomeri sold to $2.51/kg, returning $545
- Santa and Droughtmaster heifers from Merlwood Enterprises of Murgon sold for $1081 and $1020, both at $2.58/kg, averaging 407kg
- 2 pens of quality Santa heifers from J Rickards of Brigooda sold for $2.57/kg and $2.56/kg, returning $570 and $639 respectively
- Santa cross weaner heifers from Nanango sold for $512 at $2.55/kg
