Toowoomba Regional Council has won an Award of Excellence at the 2018 Parks and Leisure Australia State Conference held in Redcliffe last week for a tree-planting program which included parts of Yarraman.
Cr Joe Ramia said Council’s Urban Forest tree planting program won in the Best Rural Industry Contribution category.
“The Award of Excellence acknowledges Council’s proactive tree-planting program across the region,” Cr Ramia said.
“The strategic approach to tree planting combined with successful public consultation ensures that the management of Council’s tree populations match the expectations of the community.
“In both Yarraman and Clifton, the community was given the opportunity to have their say on the tree planting program, including providing feedback on species selection and location.
“Council communicated with the community through regular updates on the tree-planting program.”
Cr Ramia said that during the past two years, the TRC had planted 4214 trees across the Toowoomba Region.
