The South Burnett Regional Council is expected to announce its new CEO within days.
The new CEO will replace incumbent Gary Wall, who announced last December he intended to retire after a 47-year career in local government.
Mr Wall will finish work on Thursday, July 5.
The Council began seeking a new CEO earlier this year, using a specialist recruitment firm to head-hunt suitable candidates.
South Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell said on Tuesday that councillors had now completed the final selection interviews, and the successful applicant would be announced once references have been checked.
The Mayor said he expected the new CEO would work in tandem with Mr Wall for a brief period before the handover to ensure a smooth transition.
One of the new CEO’s first tasks would be to begin implementing the Council’s 2017-18 Budget, which is expected to be handed down in late June.
