Wondai’s Autumn Garden Expo is just around the corner, so that means it’s time for Wondai Art Gallery to burst out into bloom with its annual exhibition of flower and garden-themed paintings.

The annual garden art competition is sponsored by the Wondai Garden Expo, and the exhibition opened on Friday night.

This year there were more than $1000 in cash prizes.

Thirty entants submitted 55 entries in a bid to win the $500 first prize.

And for the first time, there was a $50 People’s Choice award.

Wondai Garden Expo president Helen Young officially opened the exhibition and then presented the prizes to the winning artists.

The judge for the competition was well-known Mundubbera artist Sue Lederhose.

Sue described Karol Oakley’s winning work as “a wonderful pastel”.

“The red of the gums offsetting the soft greebs, softly leading into the distance,” she said.

The exhibition will continue at the Wondai Art Gallery until the end of April.

The Wondai Garden Expo will be held at the Wondai Sportsground on April 21-22.
