Motorists using the Wide Bay Highway will soon receive better Telstra mobile coverage between Kilkivan and Woolooga.
Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien announced on Friday that the Kilkivan-Woolooga stretch had been identified as a priority black spot location.
It will be addressed in the latest round of the Federal Government’s Mobile Black Spot Program.
“It’s great to announce the confirmation of my election commitment to extend the mobile phone network along the Wide Bay Highway,” Mr O’Brien said.
“I frequently travel along the highway through this black spot area.
“It will be much safer for motorists once network coverage is extended, allowing them to call for help in times of emergency.”
A new macro base station will be built to improve reception, and it will be equipped with 12 hours of back-up power to ensure mobile coverage isn’t lost in the event of a power outage.
The base station rollout schedule will be available on Telstra’s website in a few weeks.
