Almost 100 children in Kingaroy and Nanango are about to get the chance to learn a second language …before they even start school.
Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said Federal Government funding would allow 97 pre-schoolers to learn either Italian, Spanish or Japanese.
He said Japanese would be offered at the Nanango & District Kindergarten and at Kingaroy’s Little Peanuts Early Learning Centre; Spanish at the South Burnett Child Care Centre; and Italian at the Kingaroy Early Learning Centre.
“This opportunity will not only start a life-long interest in language learning for our kids but also boost their English and problem-solving skills,” Mr Littleproud said.
“Exposure to another language and culture can have significant benefits on children from a young age – it expands their horizons and opens up exciting opportunities around the world when they reach the workforce.”
Other South Burnett pre-schools which have taken part in the Early Learning Languages Australia program include Jumping Beans Children’s Community, Kingaroy (Indonesian); Kilkivan Kindergarten (Japanese); and Mother Kate’s Early Learning Centre, Wondai (Japanese).
