The Cherbourg Hornets have buzzed home with the $1000 first prize after taking out the annual “Clash For Cash” rugby league competition in Mundubbera on Saturday.

Five teams took part in the annual event, which is a fundraiser for the Mundubbera Tigers: Cherbourg, Murgon, Mundubbera, Gayndah and Eidsvold.

The final game was between the Hornets and Mustangs, with the Hornets coming out on top 32-20.

The Mustangs took home the consolation prize of $200 cash.

On Saturday, a trial match will be played between the South Burnett and Central Burnett at Cherbourg to select a team to play in the 47th Battalion competition at Bundaberg on Saturday, May 12.

Round 1 of the South Burnett A Grade competition will be played on April 7.

South Burnett Eagles U18s travelled to Gatton on Sunday for Round 1 of the Toowoomba U18s competition.

The boys played well with the scores locked 16-all at half time, but in the end were just six points short: 26-20.

South Burnett tries were scored by Thomas Springate, Tyreece Gyemore, John Blair and Jarryd Longmuir. George Fisher kicked two goals.

Gatton Eagles’ tries were scored by Brandon Clarke (2), Bailey Williams (2) and Jackson Morgan. Dylan Flanagan kicked three goals.

The South Burnett team will be back on the road next weekend, heading to Highfields to face the Goondiwindi Boars on Saturday.
