Proston business couple Nick and Anita Blanch have made it to the finals of the 2018 WFI Insurance Small Business Achiever Award.
The young couple created NB Inspirations and the Jacaranda Tearooms to bring a department store and a cafe to Proston, as well as create employment opportunities for the town’s youth.
NB Inspirations – often called the ‘Myers of the West’ – has now run successfully for several years, and the Jacaranda Tearooms will be celebrating its first year of profitable operations next month.
Nick and Anita were nominated for the award by Cr Ros Heit.
Cr Heit said she thought the couple’s contribution to the town was amazing, especially considering they both hold down full-time jobs as well as run the businesses.
The two stores offer part-time employment for several young Proston people, and both businesses have won many fans for their attention to the traditional retail values of quality, range and service.
The two businesses also play an active role in the town’s community life.
Jacaranda Tearooms are the major sponsors of the monthly Proston Post community newsletter, the first time in many years Proston has enjoyed a locally-produced news service.
And both businesses are sponsoring this year’s Miss Proston Showgirl competition with a $200 outfit and a morning tea for two.
The Small Business Award is part of the 2018 Queensland Young Achiever Awards, which aim to encourage and reward the valuable contributions young people are making throughout Queensland.
Final judging took place on Tuesday and the winners will be announced at a Gala Presentation Dinner held at the Sir Charles Kingsford Smith Ballroom inside Royal on the Park in Brisbane on Friday, May 4.
350 people are expected to attend the dinner from around the state, including many VIP’s and the media.
