Strong Kingaroy defence kept the teams locked 16-all at two-thirds time

March 5, 2018

Kingaroy Red Ants U16s tested Across The Waves in their pre-season trial match played at T.J. O’Neill Oval on Saturday.

The 60-minute game was played in “thirds” instead of halves because of the very hot day.

After the first third, the Tigers were ahead 6-4 after the Red Ants scored with seconds to go.

At two-thirds time, the scores were locked at 16-all.

Across The Waves pulled away in the last third to finish ahead 26-16.

Across The Waves tries were scored by Nate Tuffy (2), Isaiah Bullard, Chad Booker and Connor Johnson. Bullard kicked three goals.

Kingaroy tries were scored by Ryan Macasaet (2) and Killian Klease. Xealand Eustace kicked two goals.

Across The Waves is a Bundaberg-based club which has familial ties with the Red Ants through former NRL star and Maroons player Antonio Kaufusi.

ATW also brought down an U18s team to play the South Burnett Eagles, and a senior team to face the Red Ants.

With seconds to go before the end of the first third, Ryan Macasaet scores the first of his two tries for the Kingaroy Red Ants
