Roadworks are scheduled to begin on Monday to upgrade a 400 metre stretch of Murphy’s Road at Crawford.
This project is being undertaken by the South Burnett Regional Council to reduce ongoing maintenance and improve safety.
The existing gravel road will be upgraded to a two- lane bitumen sealed road with work including excavation, drainage, gravel pavement, bitumen sealing, line marking and signage.
The work is expected to be completed by April, weather permitting.
During construction, traffic will be controlled by Traffic Controllers or Traffic Lights with some minor delays anticipated.
Why is only 400m being done? And I would also like to know who is footing the bill for this work?
Isn’t Murphy’s road only short anyway? Why not do the entire road instead of only a portion!
We asked Mayor Keith Campbell for a clarification on these points. He told us the road is being sealed at the request of Crumptons, who are paying for the work to be carried out.
Thanks for the clarification. I still don’t see why Crumptons should have to pay considering the millions of $$ they put into the local economy and that they are located on a public road. I would have thought the council would be happy to seal the road especially considering they just re-surfaced the road I live on at ratepayers’ expense that did not need doing ! Apologies for the rant but it really set me off when they spent time and resources doing our road when there are countless others in more desperate need.
