Prime Minister Kevin Rudd delivers the Apology on the floor of the House of Representatives on February 13, 2008

An event to mark the 10th anniversary of the historic Apology speech by then-Prime Minister Kevin Rudd will be held at The Ration Shed in Cherbourg on February 13.

The community evening will include videos from 5:30pm followed by acoustic songs from Cherbourg musicians.

Organisers say it will be an opportunity for people to celebrate and reflect on the decade since the speech.

They have suggested families bring along a picnic as no food will be served.

The Apology to the Stolen Generations was moved as a motion in Federal Parliament on February 13, 2008 (see video below).

Many Indigenous Australians travelled to Canberra for the event, packing the Public Gallery at Parliament House, while others watched the event live on big screens around the country.

The Apology followed the “Bringing The Home” report, a 680-page document tabled in Federal Parliament on May 26, 1997, after a two-year inquiry into the Stolen Generations.
