Moffatdale Ridge has won five medals at Hong Kong’s 2017 Wine Luxe International Awards, one of Asia’s highest profile wine events.
The winery won two silver medals for its 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon and its Cognac And Walnut Liqueur, and three bronzes for its 2014 Late Harvest Red, 2014 Late Harvest White and Roasted Macadamia Liqueur.
Moffatdale Ridge’s entries were competing against leading European winemakers as well as large, well-established Australian winemakers like Wolf Blass, Taylors Wines and Wynns.
What was even more exciting was that this year’s competition was the first time the winery had ever entered an international wine show.
Winery owners Jason and Susan Kinsella said they were humbled but very proud of their wines’ performance at such an esteemed event.
“The recognition these awards attract are a critical launching platform for the South Burnett in the valuable Asian beverage market,” Jason said.
“Who would have thought it was possible that a small Murgon winery could receive such significant recognition on the international stage?
“We are just ecstatic!”
Mr. Nelson Siu, the chairman of the Wine Luxe International Wine Awards, said he was very impressed with South Burnett wines when he visited the region for the first time in January.
Nelson said he was not surprised the region’s wines performed so strongly at the awards.
“South Burnett wines are ideally placed to attract the palates of Asian consumers who, like Queenslanders, are looking for beverages that match the tropical foods and climate of the Asian region.”
Jason said he believes the South Burnett’s temperate climate and soil structure was cementing a reputation for producing excellent wines, and the results in Hong Kong were a testament to this.
Jason also paid tribute to the support of the staff at the Bundaberg and Hong Kong offices of Trade and Investment Queensland, who were instrumental in arranging Mr Siu’s January visit and a follow-up Queensland trade mission to Hong Kong in May.
“Trade and Investment Queensland staff have also been invaluable in helping our region’s wine producers become export-ready,” Jason said.
