Blackbutt Golf Club stalwart Barry Richardson with the two certificates presented to him earlier this year for his golfing volunteer work

Barry Richardson – and his dog “Tank” – are a familiar sight around Blackbutt … at times, Barry seems to be involved in just about everything that goes on in the town!

Over the years, he has been a tireless volunteer for many local clubs and associations, including the Blackbutt-Yarraman Timbertowners Rugby League Club and the Blackbutt and District Tourism and Heritage Association (he was a Foundation member and is now Patron).

He hosts fortnightly history mornings at Nukku Nook, the headquarters for the Heritage Association and the old Nukku School, where he was educated.

Barry was also recently working hard in the project to paint the interior and the exterior of the old Nukku Railway Station, which now sits beside Nukku Nook.

However, it probably isn’t wrong to say that one of Barry’s main loves is the Blackbutt Golf Club.

He has been a volunteer at the club for an amazing 39 years, holding down various roles and various times, including President, Secretary, Providore, Captain and the nominee for the Liquor Licence.

Barry is currently serving on the Managing Committee and is a delegate for the Club.

Earlier this year, his service to the Blackbutt Golf Club was recognised at the District AGM held at the Caloundra Golf Club.

Barry was presented with a certificate from the Sunshine Coast and South Burnett District for his volunteer services to golf in Blackbutt and the South Burnett, and at District and State levels.

He was also presented with a certificate from David Brett, chairman of Golf Queensland, thanking him for his volunteer services to the sport.
