Maidenwell is getting ready for the chop … or more precisely, the South Burnett’s first ever two-day festival devoted to post-ripping and wood chopping.
Even better, some of Australia’s top post rippers and axemen will be coming to the South Burnett to take part in it.
The Maidenwell Woodchop will be held on Saturday and Sunday, December 2-3 at the Maidenwell Sportsground (the J.A. Gorton Oval), immediately next to the Maidenwell Hotel.
It will kick off at 2:00pm on Saturday afternoon with two heats of an open post rip.
This will be followed at 6:00pm with an RACQ LifeFlight charity dinner at the Maidenwell Hotel.
On Sunday, the action will kick off bright and early at 6:00am with breakfast at the Maidenwell Markets.
This will be followed by the Post Rip finals at 9:00am, where contestants will vie for glory in the Major Open, Jack and Jill, Consolation and Local categories.
After this, attention will turn from post ripping to wood chopping.
Competitors will work their way through the heats and finals of four handicap events, as well as the final of a combination championship that will include current and former world and Australian wood chop champions.
The Tanduringie State School P&C will be ensuring food and drink are available all day, and there’ll also be jumping castles and face painting to keep children amused.
The weekend is being organised by the Maidenwell Community Group and proceeds of the event will be donated to RACQ LifeFlight.
All the prizes in the Maidenwell Woodchop have been sponsored by Stanwell, Westlink, Stihl Kingaroy, Ollies Mower Service, AGL, the Glendon Street Cafe, the Bunya Nut Cafe, The Bunyas, Nanango Taxi Service, Kingaroy Hotel, Maidenwell Hotel, South Burnett Weeds and Feral Animal Control, the Krosch and Profke families, and Woolerine Grazing.
